Gong Xi Fa Cai!

gong-xi-fa-cai

In San Francisco’s Chinatown. I’m holding a fortunate purchase from last weekend’s street festival. It was labeled  “pinwheel,” but is actually 8 little pinwheels on a gorgeous gold foil structure,. Happy Year of the Ram/Goat/Sheep take your pick!

Similar clothing, which I wish the technology could make spin like my pinwheel. It was a beautiful day, I walked for almost 2 hours with happy feet. Affiliate links may generate commissions!

  1. Happy New Year! We celebrated last night with great food at one of the more authentic Chinese restaurants in the Dallas area. My daughter in law coached us on how to say Happy New Year in Mandarin. By next year I should have that down. Love the pinwheel.

  2. Hello Lisa, Xin Nian Kuai Le (Happy New Year). That pinwheel is quite a creation–I’m sure that your nephew will like it, if it’s headed his way. That goat-sheep confusion is ram-pant here also; in fact, I just wrote about some of the ram-ifications.

  3. Gung Hee Fat Choy! Happy Year of the Ram/Sheep/Goat or someone said Deer! Thank you for this post. Love all the comments – hahaha!

  4. Happy New Year to you as well, Lisa! I hope you enjoyed the celebrations in San Francisco – I imagine they are quite fun.

The Chinatown where I am is quite sad (i.e. Bed Bath & Beyond with Chinese characters underneath) & I will admit to almost breaking down in tears when I first saw it. As a result, I will be having a rather small celebration for just me, but will call my parents & siblings to wish them 新年快樂, 恭喜發財, etc. :)

    1. Oh I am sorry. xox. Take a look on my Instagram account, I took a couple of photos, maybe that will feel festive? I wish I’d taken more!
