So. The turquoise linen. I was leaning Gucci slides, but look,
proportions are wrong. OK then.
I seriously considered, nay longed for, the gorgeous espadrilles KSL linked. But this venue isn’t beachy and sunny, it’s Northern California harborside, and just a tad gritty for espadrilles. In any case, the turquoise sold out. Platforms a-gogo here we are.
Now it’s just a question of jewelry. Even if I were to move my camera out of the way, you still wouldn’t be able to see my Wendy Brandes necklace, hidden it is by a mandarin collar. Pity, I love those complementary colors. On the other hand, the gold dangly earrings in the slides outfit might trend altogether too Artsy when added to cork with gold flecks. But maybe this old locket, with a pair of pearl and diamond studs? There’s some high-low, Grande Sturdy Artsy for you, right there.
Also needs good steaming. Linen will linen but let’s get those packing creases out girls, shall we?
Wishing you blue skies and the best possible weekend.

Blue skies, indeed! I love the turquoise on you! The wedges are perfect, and I really love the idea of pearl and diamond studs with your mom’s locket. She can be a part of such a special event, too, in that way.
“Linen will linen”… I’m going to use that as a calming mantra when I’m frustrated with my clothes. :)
Wishing you the best possible weekend as well. Thank you for letting us share in your joy. xo
Thank you for being here :)
With your jewellery, golden sandals – platforms or heels, and not necessarily expensive – would add a touch of glamour. Anyway, you look good! All the best x
I’ve got gold Bernardo flats! Definitely will wear when I take this outfit to a warm climate:)
Your hair in “this old locket” is lovely! The cut and color are great and a perfect backdrop for your jewelry.
Yes, it was fun when my hair still had the darker streaks in the front, among the white. Five years later, and it’s all white now, and fluffier, so it’s harder to get it to hang so sleekly. I’m on a hair journey I tell myself. After the wedding, when I want an updo for the ceremony, I might just chop it all off!
Streaks in your hair suit you very much. Consider some temporary highlight or lowlight for the occasion!
That’s the plan! “Babylights” they call them:)
Love the platforms, and your jewelry is mouthwatering. I’m a fan of the locket-with-pearl-and-diamond-studs. Ideal for the rest of your look and a “tad gritty” setting. It’ll all work beautifully.
Bluest of skies to you!
Aw thanks! I wish my mom could hear you call it “mouthwatering.” So nice. And thank you also for the blue sky wishes xo
Love the outfit, with the higher shoe as illustrated, and the jewelry as described. Linen is one of my favorite fabrics. Yes to steaming it so you can add your just-so imprint on the linen as your evening progresses. You will look beautiful. Have a wonderful time.
Thank you, yes, absolutely what I was thinking. Wrinkles are OK but they need to be MY wrinkles. Thank you.
Lovely outfit and shoes. The jewelry works well both ways. So let your comfort level choose.
I hope the weather cooperates and gives you sunshine and a blue sky.
Ah, good thought. Let my comfort level choose. Good mantra. Thank you.
I love this — simple, elegant, and exudes an easy confidence which, to me, very welcoming. Perfect for a Welcome Dinner! xo, f
Ah, thank you Frances! I want most of all to make everyone comfortable. Myself, surely, but my daughter and my family and her fiance and their family and all the other guests. So that’s a wonderful compliment!
Well done ! Have a wonderful time !
Thank you so much!
Love the idea of including your mother.
Gotta keep Nancy with me <3 Thank you.
Just remember what Maxminimus taught us: never leave the house looking this perfect. Always ALWAYS remember to “throw a brick” at it before closing the door behind you.
This is just a reminder to leave a few bricks by the door so, at the last minute, you’ll have a selection to choose from.
His daughter learned from the master. Max posted a recent photo of her looking perfect with, I think, a piece of hemp twine tied up high around her neck. It could have been a shoelace.
xo
I missed Max’s post! I should try to hunt it down:). I will take a note: pack bricks!
(Tuning in here a little late) I like this outfit enough that I almost bought it myself in green, but then I decided that the mandarin collar just didn’t work with my short neck and square jaw. But I thought long and hard about jewelry, b/c you need a statement “something” to focus the view amidst all that solid color. Your dear mom’s locket would be perfect as long as it is really visible – and when your guests admire it, you could explain the provenance and bring Nancy fully into the evening! You know how much she would love to actually be there.
PS: The wedge espadrilles are perfect, and really elevate the outfit, as well as you. And I share everyone else’s wishes for blue skies and happiness, all around…
