Off To Blog Hiatus, See You Bright And Early In September, Or, Saturday Morning at 7:41am

Today marks the first Saturday post I’ve ever written in advance. Usually I begin upon rising and put my pen down by noon, come proverbial hell or high water. It’s an exercise I’ve set myself, and one I highly recommend to establish a regular schedule and editorial rhythm.

This August is also the first month-long break I will have taken since beginning to write in 2009. I will be back. I love this blog for many singular reasons – put them all together and I’m compelled to return. But what with getting married and holding down a full-time job, I fear my blog posts this month would devolve into sentence fragments, probably repetitive ones at that. Might not even manage words, just sounds. Blurgh. Pppfwit. Durrrrrgonsh.

Note that possibly this break will involve a little post or two if there’s important news, or I just can’t resist. It will also probably involve some Twitter, if you do that sort of thing, and you are more than welcome to join me there. Say “Hello, I’m a reader,” and I’ll make a special list so I know it’s you guys.

For those of you who have arrived at Privilege for the first time, and it’s still August, below please find a quick summary of the kinds of posts you’ll be reading come September.

  1. Style for the over-50.
  2. Reviews and musings on brands that offer “practical luxury” as Sophia from les anti-modernes* would say. With the occasional detour to impractical or even bargain luxury. I defined luxury over on Tish’s blog A Femme d’un Certain Age.
  3. Outfit photos that illustrate a useful principle or approach to style.
  4. Deconstruction of the social and anthropological forces behind what we choose to wear, or are afraid to wear, or refuse to wear. This may often veer into a discussion of career wardrobes or even social class.
  5. Saturday mornings. As I said, the Saturday morning practice involves writing about whatever crosses my mind. This is quite likely to involve my children.
  6. The occasional post on things actually cultural and intellectual, written by my father, Professor C.
  7. The occasional post in which I tell a long ago story of a trip through India. I hope to use this break to do some of that time-and-focus-consuming writing.
  8. Commentary from some of the most interesting readers in the blogosphere. I’m honored by their presence.

Let me add, I try not to be a  jerk.

Finally, for those who like weddings, yes, I’ll post some photos of the shebang when I’m through to the other side. I can tell you now that the Christopher Kane tape dress has been slated for a wedding party dinner the night before, and the deconstructed Romona Keveza 293, joined by a pair of Absurdly Pointy And Diamante At That Jimmy Choos, has solidified its role as my wedding dress.

I am sure you know how to relax and enjoy yourself so send a wish–may you have hammock time ( or its equivalent –oceanside doing nothing time, live music time, making art time, mountaintop time…) every day, and may you occasionally stay in your pjs til 4. (those are kind of an antidote to the WASPY urge to be productively engaged every minute)
