Truly, although I have ordered the Uggs Ansely slippers and happily await their arrival, I have not been buying clothes. Oh, I’ve looked at them, I’ve even coveted them, but the inner voice saying, “You really don’t need that,” is far louder than the imp that whispers, “Ooooooooo…”
I suppose the first thing I had an urge for and then let go of was a pair of Repetto ballet slippers. About a year ago. They are now cool again. Am I prescient? Let’s pretend.
Subsequently, here’s what has caught my eye:
Eileen Fisher ponte pants, in Burgundy. The color is the whole point. And the stretch. I’d love to wear these with a powder blue tee, I think. Maybe even one by Ralph Lauren. Or cognac. I’d have to see. Not black. Definitely not black. But I digress (remember when we used to say that on this ol’ blogosphere?).
And before I went to London I was thinking I needed to repurchase this Hobo bag that I owned in powder blue, until it disintegrated at the corners. I have bags, beautiful bags, but I have decided that for travel, small, light, zip top, and can become a wristlet is my preferred configuration.
Costs pretty much nothing compared to this also-considered Bottega Veneta.
But perhaps the most outrageous objet I have desired? An $11,000 pair of Graff earrings.
I’m such a fan of butterflies. And these look so graceful, right? Just what I need to accessorize these brilliantly stylish H&M sweatpants. (Wink emoji.)
But real talk. Perhaps the most likely to wind up in my dresser is this. A Frances Valentine t-shirt. I thought I was done with striped tees, too preppy and all that, but never say never. Maybe I’m now old enough that cute is become subversive.
As far as outer wearI’ve been entranced by the idea of a shearling jacket, but a) it’s rarely that cold in the SF Bay Area b) it often rains and c) no. I’ve been highly intrigued by the Madewell jacket Sue posted here, but it feels just a tad too “city” for my current life. Enter a brown UNIQLO down jacket. To accompany my general shift away from cool colors (black, blue, pink) as prompted by Sue’s color consultation.
Now, do I own any of these items? Any? I do not. Might I, in future? I simply cannot say.
What, if anything, has caught your eye for the cooler days ahead, here in the US? I have high hope for the fruits of your collective discerning eye.

Your clothing choices look insouciant and relaxed. Love the down jacket! Congratulations on a pulled together look – casual is one thing, baggy and rumpled is another – sad to say when I was in the airport recently, too many people looked the latter rather than the former.
Agree with you totally about light ziptop bags for travel – I use a Picard (German brand, despite the French-sounding name) fanny pack, but worn front-wise to keep it in my sight at all times. I can fit in my passport, boarding cards, credit cards, a couple of bills etc. and it has 2 separate sections – easier to keep things separated. You could even fit in a small pill box if desired. Multicoloured, goes with everything, and actually waterproof too!

I recently gave in to a grey cashmere long sleeve and black cashmere pencil skirt, both from the Saks label. Then, knowing I’d have a hospital stay and beyond, I purchased 3 slips from LaPerla. My husband thought they were evening dresses at first.
Arabella, both the cashmere and the slips sound divine. Seems like the least you should have right now are evening gowns for your hospital bed.

Regarding clothing, I have not seen or bought anything in a few months. That said, if I saw something appealing I’d purchase. I probably have everything I need for a cold Massachusetts winter. I did buy 3 Winterberry (Spirit) bushes for my garden. The red berries are beautiful and will attract the birds. The garden centers are having end-of-season sales and this is a good time to buy. I hope you are feeling better and fully recovered from Covid.

i have been dithering over purchasing jenni kayne’s shearling moc slippers … mostly because they seem ridiculously overpriced but at the same time they’re the only slippers i can imagine wearing and look soooo cozy.
after our summer travel to stockholm/copenhagen, i purchased a sunspel button down to pretend i am scandi-chic (wearing it like a cardigan over leggings or a skirt, but not so voluminous that it can’t pivot to “shirt”).
and now, sitting back and waiting for cold-weather inspiration. i applaud your small travel bag plan. i am doing the same. a very slim zip pouch with strap, tucked into a larger tote bag for travel. easy peasy and almost passes as intentionally chic. a win.
