This morning, in the face of events in Minneapolis, where I have neither insight nor novel emotions, I can only post some photos of my very happy trip to New York City last weekend. Oh, and remind you to contact your senators and tell them to vote with their conscience, against any further funding for ICE.
Friday
My daughter and her husband have some of my mom’s furniture in their apartment, along with a piece of my stepmother’s art. Cozy, if temporary until my daughter’s fellowship finishes.

It is hard to have good hair, even when you get a good haircut, if you have to wear a hat in the snow. Love this hip modern Korean food and vibe. My son-in-law is an excellent adventure planner.

Saturday
Headed over to a literal and figurative jewel box of a jewelry store, Foundrae, on the Upper East Side. Chinese cinnabar-colored decor by way of Diana Vreeland.

Then we saw a matinee of “Maybe Happy Ending,” which I whole-heartedly recommend. Poignant, funny, innovative set design. 11/10. It snowed, as we walked. Worth the hat hair. 11/10.

After the show, a cocktail bar, worth breaking my dry January at least for the day. Delicious! I swear I did more cool stuff this weekend than in three months of my usual life, although I do sleep more at home. Worth it.

Finished up the evening with dinner at Family Meal. Vegetable-forward, full of surprise, joined by my youngest sister and her eldest daughter. Fun beyond measure.

Sunday
Took a trip to New Jersey to visit my daughter’s in-laws, and viewed a few houses for sale. Hat, gloves, snow all around. Glimpses of a future; a delicious dinner.
Monday
A little boot-shopping for, yes, more snow in the forecast. Stay warm, everyone. My cute daughter and a stop in Times Square to see the billboard featuring Harry Styles in custom @patcar tee.

Turns out that having an adult child (or a brother) become visibly successful is exhilarating. All the Instagram! All the press! But in terms of pride, per se, I’d have been just as proud of anything that required such hard work and reflected deep spersonal kills and values. The public bit belongs to my kid. Love you, buddy.
We finished up with lunch here.

Another vegetable, green on the plate, shining.

Then I flew home. Have a good weekend. Now I have to ask you one last time to call or email your senators and ask them to prevent another slice of funding to be released for ICE. If we can’t solve this altogether we can still act in small ways. After all, we are legion and if we are safe ourselves we can nurture our capacity and use it for good.

What a delightful post. I loved seeing it. And yes, letters and phone calls.
Thank you, Susan. Letters and phone calls and family and art and beauty. The first two allow us much more access to the last three xox
Such a happy post to brighten an otherwise sad weekend. Thank you, Lisa! Especially love your daughter’s decor and the joyful smiles. ❤❤
Thank you! I also can’t wait to see mom’s dining room table back in action eventually. It’s been in my garage for quite some time now.
My daughter is currently living in New Jersey, and one of our favorite places to have a cocktail is Valerie’s on 44th (or thereabouts!). Dinner is also delish!
Thanks for the recommendation! This bar was called The Up&Up. New York is just so great.
Here’s to happy! And here’s to whatever people feel able to do. <3
Yes to both 100%
Sounds like a magical weekend, Lisa. And I’m guessing that you need some magic in your life… think that all of my American friends do. We’re up here rooting for you. May not always seem so, but we are.
You are in Canada, Sue? Then, cheers for the words spoken by your PM Mark Carney at Davos. I was so proud of him “throwing shade” at our Pres. And he did it so beautifully, too – great form, great timing.
Thank you for sending support, and some of your magic our way.
I echo what Flo says here. Thank you.
Splendid from first to last! I love to read happy reports from visitors to this magnificent city I call home.
(And how much do we love seeing Pat on Harry!)
Thank you! I adore New York. It truly is magnificent. Having Patrick’s work in Times Square isn’t too shabby either;)
Thank you for this delightful little slice of joy!
You are more than welcome.
Lisa, so happy you had such a great weekend with your family! Is your daughter working in NYC now? I hope maybe one trip when you are less programmed we can say hi. It sounds like you saw and experienced the best of New York. And they say joy is the way to survive this period, in addition to the fight. xx
Thank you. She is finishing up her fellowship! The next time I come out I’d love to say hi:)
“It is hard to have good hair, even when you get a good haircut”
Love your new “good haircut”!
Thank you, Flo
I enjoy your photos and interesting adventures. Thanks for the post.
Thank you, and you’re welcome. Adventures to me are the best thing:)
