Out And About In The Virtual World, Or, Saturday Morning at 9:27am

Morning.

On Instagram, some spinners.

The whirligigs of Year of the Rooster.

A post shared by Lisa Carnochan (@amidprivilege) on

On Medium, my struggle to understand the emotional infrastructure of political positions.

On Twitter, two book recommendations.

And other voices.

Dani at Mop Philosopher gives us a couple of recent posts full of outfit color for a trip to Italy. The perfect Saturday morning browse.

I do miss you guys. Hope all is well.

  1. I have a book recommendation for you, Unfamilar Fishes by Sarah Vowell. I read it, audiobook friends tell me her voice is not pleasant

  2. Lisa thank you so much for the kind mention. And I do love those spinners, the colours! I hope you are well. xx

  3. Hi Lisa
I can understand your struggle to understand the current situation in USA. Let me just assure you and your readers that here in Sweden everything is well, as always. Sweden is still one of the richest, safest, most peaceful countries in the world. Almost all of us, born here or immigrants, are nice, kind, clever, hardworking and happy.
And nothing more dramatic happened the other day, than an 87-year old singer making success in a singing contest. Love from Helena in Uppsala, Sweden

  4. Lovely to see one of your Saturday morning posts pop up in my Sunday morning email. The Sympathizer has been in my TBR stack since it came to me from the Book Passage First Editions Book Club in May 2015 before Nguyen won the 2016 Pulitzer Prize. Mary Benham, and the other readers at Book Passage, have an amazing ability to choose extraordinary books. Coincidentally, the February 2017 First Editions’ selection is Nguyen’s new book of stories, The Refugees. My personal realities, and the public realities of the last few years have led me to choose more escapist fare than I read previously. Recently, I read the collected works of Barbara Pym, which I loved. Presently, I’m re-reading Maria Semple’s Where’d You Go Bernadette before I read her latest book Today Will Be Different. Also adored the style of the Brora coral sweater on DaniBP’s blog. Brora has a beautiful cropped black sweater with 3/4-length sleeves on their site now, but it’s like a sweater I own, if I’d get it out of my storage unit. Thank you for the post. Happy Sunday to you.

  5. Hope your new direction is working well for you Lisa – it is definitely not working for me – miss you……!

    1. @Chris, Thank you very much. I don’t know if this is working for me, I just am not able to do otherwise. If the direction of the administration shifted, I would love to come back here more frequently.

  6. Nice to see those cheery spinners…for the year of the rooster.
I love reading Dani’s blog and she is lovely in person, I had the privilege of meeting her when she was visiting Victoria and we shared lovely conversation and a drink in the Bengal Room at The Empress Hotel.

Our world here is spinning slightly out of control…
