Reporting Back On Fall Shopping, Or, Saturday Morning at 10:10am

A few weeks ago, I thought about a couple of purchases. Hey presto. Above are the UNIQLO jeans we discussed.  So 80s and so great for the long of waist and broad of shoulder. Rolled up for a punk affect if not the attitude. I’m considering this floral tee for contrast.

I considered Doc Martin combat boots but I tried them on and yikes way too stiff for this 63-year old. I happened by a Timberland store and got these instead. Perfect for my walking needs. In the first day or three they are comfortable for 15 minutes, I add heel lifts for my Achilles if it’s complaining. I can feel the leather softening already, I’d expect hour-long walks in the not too distant future.

Now, if I lived in a fashion city, I bet I’d go for these.

They even come in black with gold stars, or cranberry.

But I live where I live. And I’m happy with Timberlands.

I also love the boxy cropped black denim jacket, and I wear it a lot. Even to a fancy dinner. Round here, it’s dress down or stand out. Oh the horror. Céline bag because I have it and because there are teeny blue dots in the several-years-old Dries van Noten dress. I swear.

I did want to show you guys the shoes. Oh dear me goodness graciousness so spectacularly comfortable. Like a foot smooch. Pointed toe, block heel. Come in a few neutrals. I do know the veins on my feet are quite visible, but they keep my gently collapsing cheeks company and I’m living through time and I have a body, so here we are.

Here you can see that the look might be snappier with a tighter dress and a trapeze jacket. But, then I’d be less comfortable. And we know the way that pendulum swings.

Have a wonderful weekend. I’m in a very good mood. I hope you are too.

  2. Your fashion posts are so much fun! I find myself needing boots I can walkin all day long. We are off to Santa Fe in a few weeks.

You are so fortunate to live in a place where dressing down is important. I live in a so called fashion city-not that this has stopped me from avoiding fashion. i just can’t wear jeans to social functions (unless they are at our farm).

    1. @Susan D., Thank you:). And have an amazing time in Santa Fe, I love it there. I am sure you can find “walk all day boots” that don’t require a break in period. Try Mephisto or Born, both those brands get great reviews and my Mephisto sandals are walk all day themselves.

I can absolutely imagine Dallas dress requirements – and I can also imagine wonderful parties at your farm!

    2. @Susan D., my votes for comfortable boots: Sorel, and Pikolinos. You do have to make sure of the size on these. The Flexx aren’t too bad either, and I have a pair of Aquatalias that I like. But so far Sorel is winning.

  3. There is an art to dressing down without looking like you picked up the contents of your closet floor.
The short jacket looks sharp with higher waisted pants, and better with a dress.

I assume you’ve gone with a boot b/c the ankle lacing works better for your heel than a low oxford?

The utility of the short jean jacket is that it not only goes with higher waisted pants, but it does better with dresses.

    1. @RoseAG, You are so right about the utility of a short jean jacket. I’m wearing it a lot.

And I got the ankle height because they just looked better with those UNIQLO jeans – which look good cuffed, and then I wanted some substance to the ankle.

If I wore the jeans uncuffed, a low oxford would be perfect. Like, red ones or something.

  4. Never apologize for the Céline bag. It’s a beauty. Love everything here but so glad to see you in the new jeans. They look wonderful on you. Yes to the cuffs! I join you in being in a good mood. Actually a great mood. Have a great weekend!

    1. @Jane, Thanks:). I just don’t know if my mother would think the bag “went” with the dress but I will say yes!

And hey, great mood high five!!!

  5. Love love both outfits. The boots are perfect. Even though I live in a “city” – most know that Los Angeles is actually just one suburb attached to the next. Same with dressing down or standing out.

I also happen to be in a very good mood xo

    1. @KSL, I am so glad you’re in a good mood too, it’s lovely to have company. Yes to LA being a series of suburbs, and I’m always so gratified when you endorse my taste. <3

  6. Lisa, You are a pretty woman.

Two years ago I bought some women’s Red Wings boots. To my surprise they are comfortable albeit heavy. I think they will last forever and look great with jeans.
Enjoy the cooler weather I know I am.

    Luci

    1. @luci, Thank you very much. Pretty gets harder and harder to locate as I get older, and I’m mostly OK with that, but it’s still really nice to hear that sometimes it shines out.

And I like Red Wings too – are the soles cushioned enough?

  7. I think those jeans are SO great on you! And the Timberland boots are really cute and very organic (as in intrinsic) with the look. The cropped jean jacket with the dress is so right for Northern California…

    1. @Susan B, The jeans were a great find in great company:). Glad you like the Timberlands! I wouldn’t have thought of them but I was glad they’ve got a store now at the Stanford Shopping Center.

  8. Love the looks. Enjoy both Timberlands and Red Wings, which someone mentioned above. Also like your cropped black denim jacket. I’m in a good mood too. Is it our autumnal air and sunshine? Happy Saturday to you.

    1. @Katherine C. James, Thank you! I can see you in Timberland/Red Wings!

And yes, I think you’re right. It’s been such a hot summer, it’s lovely to have our temperate days back. Happy good mood to you xox.

  9. Combining stylish high end pieces with a single casual piece works so well. The illusion is dressed up and dressed down. Nobody can label it. Well done, Lisa. The cool crisp weather along with bright sunshine and blue skies is good for the soul. I call this, “Feel great weather.” Enjoy.

  10. I love that jacket. I have two denim jackets, one a cast-off from my daughter that did sterling work this summer, and an off-white, baggier version that I bought on a whim last month. Both so wearable. I wouldn’t mind a black one because – as you point out – it will go everywhere. I feel a jaunt coming on…

  11. Those Paul Green Tammy pumps have become my “go to” work shoe. These achieve a rare balance between “fashionable enough” and “comfortable for all day wear.” Paul Green shoes most consistently hit that sweet spot for me, but I find I do best ordering from Europe for a far better style selection.

  12. Just on the off chance that you’d be interested, it’s possible to get veins ablated. I did it on my legs, and it worked like magic..
